Welcome to St. Joseph's College

Founded in 1896, St. Joseph's College, Colombo 10 is the premier Roman Catholic Boys School in the country. The brain child of Archbishop Christopher Bonjean the College opened its doors on 2nd March 1806 with 211 students in the Collegiate section and 96 in the Preparatory School under Very Rev. Fr. Charles Collin, O.M.I. as the first Rector.

Since then the College has made great strides in the field of education, religious formation, sports and thus contributed greatly by producing eminent men in the fields of Science, Medicine, Law, Education, Politics the Armed Forces, Astronomy, Literature and Religious formation. The first five Rectors were members of the Congregation of Oblates of Mary Immaculate. The first four were foreign missionaries. Very Rev. Fr. Peter A. Pillai was the first Sri Lankan to assume office in 1940. The succeeding seven were all Missionary Apostles of which Rev. Fr. Sylvester Ranasinghe is the present Rector. Among the many beautiful buildings which adorn the College premises, the magnificent Chapel set in the middle of the College which is the very heart of St. Joseph's College Colombo. 10.
