Our History

St. Joseph's College was established in 1896 by French missionaries, with Rev Christopher Ernst Bonjean playing a leading role. The college has over 3000 students and over 150 staff members. Distinguished former students include Cardinal Thomas Cooray, the first Cardinal from Sri Lanka, President Ranasinghe Premadasa and Niranjan Deva-Aditya, the first person in history to be born in one continent (Asia) and elected to parliament in another continent (UK).
